Chiaroscuro:
S/S24 Genderless Forecast
Chiaroscuro is an artistic term that comes from the Italian words chiaro which means bright and oscuro which means dark. Many modern artists use this technique while looking to the past for inspiration and knowledge to use as building blocks for the future. The assignment was to create a genderless trend forecast for 2024 including color, textile, and look forecasts.

Color Forecast
Color Forecast
Our process began with research about the zeitgeist of the world, and from that research, my team and I were able to create a mood board, and two color stories for our forecast.
This part of the project was really interesting to me because I could see directly where we pulled our color stories from within our research.
“These stories signify the chance to overcome and embrace the difficult times”
This quote is pulled from our final presentation where we shared these stories along with our complimenting mood boards. The final color forecast is included in the full Chiaroscuro: S/S24 Genderless Forecast report at the bottom.
Textile Forecast

GORE-TEX INFINIUM™
NYLON NETTING
In collaboration with my team, we created a full textile forecast including two innovative fabrics I have included above: GORE-TEX™ and Leap™. Leap™ is a bio-based leather alternative made from apple remains and juice is a non-traditional way of having the texture of leather with added flexibility provided by the cotton backing. GORE-TEX™ fabrics are incredibly functional with waterproof and windproof qualities but our prediction involves the fabric being used as a more stylish option.
We were able to put this forecast together with extensive research both about advancements in fabric technology, and cultural changes. Creating both the textile and color forecasts taught me a lot about how to do this type of extensive research and what databases can provide significant information. I found it intriguing to uncover new information about what types of developments are being made in technology, and this project definitely made me interested in forecasting.

Details & Key Items
Details & Key Items
The key item that is pictured to the left was featured in our Light Knitwear section, and this prediction is gradually showing up more in trends. Even though these forecasts are for Spring/Summer 24, trends bubble up slowly and can be seen much earlier than the predicted season. The process of identifying key items and details is the same as the color, textile, and looks forecasts: it’s based on thorough research and cultural movements.
“The details of a garment are what bring subtle uniqueness to a masterpiece.”
This quote is pulled from our final slide deck where we presented these details and key items. My team members worked on this section more heavily than I did because my main responsibilities of this project revolved around the looks portion.

COPENHAGEN SPRING 21

MILAN FALL 22
My role in this project was mainly putting together the looks slides, and it was very enjoyable. My favorite looks theme was Intimate Affair which includes looks featuring styliintimate clothing being stylized. I’m very proud that we identified this theme as well because it has been becoming more mainstream and showing up often in recent trends.
When putting together this part of the project, we were asked to use a combination of both runway and street style looks to demonstrate that trends arise from anywhere. Getting to do lots of research for this section was fascinating and I loved looking through all of the different fashion shows searching for common patterns.

The Outcome
This forecasting project taught me about the importance of thoroughness in research, and how collaboration can create something amazing. I have been enjoying seeing the trends we predicted show up in my life, and hopefully, that will continue through 2024. The Intimate Affair trend highlighted in the look sections that shows undergarments as outerwear is the one I have noticed growing the most. I learned a lot about the forecasting process that I never knew, and this project definitely grew my interest in the forecasting industry.
